Your blood may be taken by the practice by appointment only. Priority is given to elderly and disabled patients and for urgent blood tests.

Blood Tests at the Practice

We do have a phlebotomist that comes to the Surgery:

  • Tuesdays between 10am and 11am
  • Thursdays between 11am and 12pm.

This is by appointment only (you can make an appointment at the reception desk or over the telephone).

We would appreciate it however, if priority for these appointments could be given to disabled or elderly patients who have trouble travelling to Withington Community Hospital.

Fasted Blood Tests

If you have been told that you need a ‘fasted’ blood test (usually needed to check cholesterol and glucose levels), then you should have nothing to eat or drink other than plain water from midnight before the test.

Children

Blood Test Appointments are made by the local community clinics following a referral from the GP. At the point the GP sends the referral for the blood test they are able to issue blood test forms, labels and also a prescription for numbing cream.

X-Rays

These can be done at the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) or Withington Community Hospital.

The doctor or nurse will ask you where you would prefer to have your x-ray taken.

Results

If you are able, please submit an online Admin Query to request your test results and these will be sent back through to you via SMS message or via a telephone call. If you are unable to complete the form please call the practice after 2pm on 01612486644. You can also view test results via the NHS App, you can create an account here https://help.login.nhs.uk/setupnhslogin/. The practice does not routinely contact patients if results are abnormal. We expect patients to share the responsibility for their health care.

Please allow 10 working days for results to be received by the practice.

If you have had a test at the hospital through an outpatients appointment or Consultant, you will need to contact the hospital for your results, the GP will not receive these.
